When Chipper arrived at WISE, he was surrendered alongside his girlfriend and their two tiny, four-day-old puppies. During his routine intake exam, the team discovered that Chipper had Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), a congenital heart defect that required specialized care. After meeting with veterinary specialists, it was confirmed that Chipper needed life-saving heart surgery. Because he had gone so long without treatment, his condition had progressed to heart failure, leaving him with about six months to live without intervention.
Outcome:
On June 8, Chipper underwent the surgery that would give him the best chance at a long, healthy future. Thanks to the incredible care of his veterinary team, the procedure was a home run. Today, Chipper is recovering in a loving foster home where he can rest, heal, and enjoy what it feels like to finally be cared for. His cardiologist has been thrilled with his progress, and each follow-up appointment brings more good news.
Prognosis: 10/10. Chipper’s journey isn’t over yet—but his future is brighter than it has ever been. Once he’s fully recovered, this sweet, resilient boy will be ready to find the forever family he’s always deserved.
